What Is An Online Maps Specialist?
An Online Maps Specialist is a person who is skilled in the use of online mapping software. He or she is also known as a Map Quality Analyst. The online maps specialist/map quality analyst will be responsible for the following and more:
- Determining the accuracy of online map results and locations provided for search queries.
- Checking if city, province/state and country results are geographically accurate for a given country.
- Ascertaining the accuracy of driving and routing instructions.
- Suggesting alternate routes and route information where possible.
- Annotating text and graphical routing instructions.
How Do You Become An Online Maps Specialist?
Online maps specialist jobs are offered for different countries by these two recruiting companies: Leapforce and Lionbridge. They are hiring on behalf of Google. You can expect it to become permanent or long-term if these companies can find qualified candidates to fill the available positions.
Applicants should have a record of evaluating and analyzing visual data. Other requirements include:

- You must be at least 18 years old.
- You must be fluent in the English language. This means that you must be able to read and write in English. You may be required to provide proof of this e.g. a certificate.
- You must be proficient in the native language(s) of the country for which you are applying. You may also be required to pass an assessment test to prove this.
- You must be a resident of the country for which you are applying. You should have lived there full-time for at least 3 years in the past 10 years.
- You should have a strong knowledge of your local geographical area and points of interest.
- You must be a regular driver in your country and have good knowledge of the driving routes.
- Ability to use online maps and map software is essential.
- You should be familiar with the internet and with using internet browsers.
- You must have access to a computer with a high-speed internet connection.
- You will be required to work for at least 2-4 hours a week.
- While it is not an absolute requirement, a university/college degree will be an advantage.
How Much Can You Earn?
The recruiting companies do not mention how much you will be paid. However, considering the type of skill level expected of potential applicants and the other peculiar requirements, remuneration will be adequate.
How Will You Be Paid and How Often?
Payments will be made by the recruiting companies on a monthly basis. Lionbridge pays into a bank account provided by the applicant and Leapforce sends checks via mail.
