How to Make Google Search Safe for Children and Minors

Image
Google uses a search technique that scours the web looking for web pages that contain the words or search terms that a user has typed into the search box. Thus, sometimes it can produce search result pages that contain a bewildering, exotic, and wholly inappropriate array of web page links, images and videos. Children should be protected from such situations when they use Google. The following are steps a parent or adult can take to avoid such disconcerting situations: 1. Use Google's SafeSearch options . SafeSearch works by blocking web pages that contain explicit and sexual content from appearing in search results. To do this go to the Google home page and click on the Settings link in the bottom right-hand corner of the web page. The SafeSearch filtering option is usually the first setting on the Settings page. Check the "Turn on SafeSearch" box to activate it. According to Google, " SafeSearch can help you block inappropriate or explicit images from you...

How to Submit Your Website to Google, Bing, Yahoo for Crawling and Indexing

Image
Most search engines automatically search the entire web looking for new websites and web pages to add to their index. This is called "crawling the web" and may be carried out every few hours, days, weeks or months. Timing depends on the site being crawled; some sites are crawled more often than others. However, there are a few situations in which you would do well to submit your website to be indexed by a search engine. These include: - If you use a subdomain website (especially one of those free ones), it would be better if you asked for it to be indexed. Large search engines like Google are reluctant to crawl and index subdomain websites for reasons that are not clear. - You have added new content since your website was last crawled. - You have important information that you want to appear in search engine results immediately. - Your website is brand new. How to Add Your Site to Google - Go to the "Add Your URL to Google" page at:  http://www.google....

Image
Four months ago Facebook paid a whopping $19 billion for Whatsapp and a few people may have thought that it was an exorbitant price to pay. For any doubters out there, Whatsapp is worth every cent of the $19 billion that was paid for it. Why is it really worth so much? As of the time of the deal in February 2014, Whatsapp had an estimated 450 million users. It is still growing daily and said to be adding an estimated one million users daily. It currently has an  estimated 500 million  active   users  as of April 2014  and so has the largest user base of any messaging service in the world. However, what makes it truly appealing is that it exists on almost all mobile OS platforms available - iOS, Android, Blackberry, Windows Phone, and even Symbian and Asha. Android may rule the world and the USA may worship the iPhone but hundreds of millions of users around the world still use other platforms. Many people in countries like India and Nigeria (with a combined...
